2005 SyrahDespite an unusually wet winter, the harvest of 2005 brought yet another crop of the robust, highly flavored fruit for which the Bradley-Lockwood area is becoming known. Fermented in small lots and aged in French oak for 18 months, our 2005 Syrah is in many ways the picture of varietal correctness, featuring notes of violet and white pepper layered upon a strong foundation of blackberry. Accents of black cherry, vanilla, and a trace of nutmeg are also evident, while dark coffee aromas combined with a vaguely mineral aspect provide an earthy counterpoint. An envelope of gentle tannins helps to contain and define the fruit. At a relatively modest 13.7%, the delicacy of this wine is not submerged in a wash of alcohol. Rich yet focused, this wine is something of a hybrid, combining the rounded intensity of a warm-weather Syrah with an element of the restraint and definition more characteristic of the cold-weather style.175 cases produced 13.7% alcohol 750 ml $17.95 Purchase Now
